Report Lost, Stolen, or Damaged ID Card

Harvard ID cardholders can disable or enable their card by using the “Lost Card” feature in the ID Card Web Application if the card has been lost or stolen.

Lost, Stolen, or Damaged ID Cards

For your protection, once a card is replaced, the original card cannot be reactivated. If you find the original card and then lose the replacement, you cannot use that original card that was previously reported as lost. You will need to bring in the found card and get another replacement.

Lost ID

  • There is a charge of $40, effective July 1, 2025,  for a lost photo ID card. Payable by credit card, student account or payroll deduction based on your Harvard affiliation.  Cash payments will only be accepted at the Campus Service Center through June 30, 2025.  No cash payments are accepted at the Longwood or HBS offices.
  • Students reporting a lost card after the closing date of their final student account bill must pay by credit card or check. Extension and Summer School students must also pay by credit card or check. All other students may charge it to their student account.

Disable or Enable ID Card

ID cardholders can disable their card (blocking all building clearances and access to meal plans) by using the “Lost Card” feature in the ID Card portal. If the card has been found before the Campus Service Center replaces it, it can be enabled using the same tool.

Stolen ID

  • ID Services will waive the replacement charge for a stolen ID card if a copy of a police report that documents the ID card as one of the stolen items is presented.  Otherwise, we must consider the card lost, which is subject to the same replacement charges as lost cards.  Reports of only the ID being stolen will be considered lost cards and not replaced for free as stolen.

Disable Or Enable ID Card

ID cardholders can disable their card (blocking all building clearances and access to meal plans) by using the “Lost Card” feature in the ID Card portal. If the card has been found before the Campus Service Center replaces it, it can be enabled using the same tool.

Damaged ID

  • There is no charge for replacement of cards damaged by normal wear and tear. However, the damaged card must be returned to the Campus Service Center and we must be able to determine that it is your current card. Otherwise, we must consider the card as lost and subject to the same replacement charges as lost cards.
  • Do not throw away damaged cards. There is a replacement cost for cards that we determine are intentionally damaged (ex. hole punched in the card).

Replace ID Card

Harvard ID cards can be replaced at the Campus Service Center at Smith Campus Center or one of our additional locations. Your card will be reissued on the spot, and the entire process takes less than five minutes. Please review the policy for lost ID cards above.
